The ground
beneath you
is ready.
Endings are not waste. They are the raw material for everything that grows next.
Jay
Smith
Jay Smith is a farmer, community grower, and mentor who teaches people how to turn life’s hardest seasons into fertile ground, and ask the only question that matters, what seeds do you desire to plant?
His journey didn’t begin in a boardroom or a university. It began in the kind of soil most people try to avoid. By the time he was sixteen, he had attended seven different high schools and spent time in youth detention. The weight of it nearly cost him his life.
It was on a small hobby farm, hands in the soil, watching what was dead become nourishment, that he found the framework that now shapes everything he does.
Field Notes
from the ground
A quiet letter from the ground, written when there’s something worth sharing. My intention is simple, to offer something useful, something honest, and something that reminds you that growth is always possible, even in the hardest seasons.
Grow your own food.
Grow together.
Jay Smith also brings people together to grow food in Ottawa, because growing food is growing people. Through Thunder Gardens, he connects communities to the soil, to shared abundance, and to the oldest form of healing we know.
And if you’re in the Ottawa area and want to get your hands in the soil alongside others, you’re welcome to start growing with Jay at growingwithjay.com.
“The ground beneath you is ready. It has been fertilised by everything you’ve endured.”โ Jay Smith
